Clinical PACS for Technical Professionals (CPACS)


The Clinical PACS (CPACS) training course will cover the basic clinical skills necessary to support a PACS system. It is designed for those that have a technical/IT background and/or little to no clinical experience. The course includes discussions on industry standards and skills inventories. We will also examine content specifications for PACS related certification exam(s) currently available.

The course goals are:
  • To Eliminate Fear….. of computers, “techie” talk, the unknown and not keeping up
  • Feel good about….enhanced computer knowledge, new computer tricks and improved understanding of networks, having eliminated some of the computer mystery (it’s not magic! It’s Information Technology!)

  • Basic word building/rules, common prefixes and suffixes
  • Anatomical Planes, directional terms
Hospital and Modality Overview
  • Imaging Department organization, modality physics and operation
  • Image identification by modality
Body Systems and Imaging
  • Common exams for each system
  • Basic anatomy and physiology
  • Exam choice by pathology, image evaluation
Workflow
  • Analog versus digital
  • Workflow examples by imaging area

Clinical Applications
  • Prefetching and relevant priors, folder hierarchy
  • Structured reports, paperless, 3D and surface rendering
  • Dictation, QA and QC

Change Management
  • Change cycle
  • Communication
